Our Story
South African by name
Owners Peter and Amanda Kettle are passionate about sport, and South Africa. Peter grew up in SA until he settled in the UK in the late 1990s. Despite now living in the UK, his heart will always be in his beloved South Africa.
For those familiar with international cricket grounds, you’ll know that Newlands Cricket Ground is located in Cape Town, with Table Mountain providing the perfect backdrop. It seemed fitting that the name and logo of our sports shop should be born from one of Cape Town’s iconic landmarks.
Supporting local communities
When their son was old enough to join a local cricket club, Peter began coaching and obtained his ECB Level 2 Coaching qualification. It wasn’t long before their daughter was also playing cricket and went on to play competitively at club and county level. It was inevitable that Amanda would become more involved too, which led to support coaching, managing teams, scoring and umpiring (not to mention playing for the women’s team on several occasions!)
A New Venture
After living in southern England for 10 years, the Kettles returned to north east England in late 2018; soon realising there were numerous cricket clubs in the area but not many outlets to purchase specialised equipment.
Roll-on to early 2020, after a trip to Johannesburg to watch the SA v ENG Test Match. An inspirational moment led to a meeting with the MD of South African brand D&P and the start of our journey into sports retail began.
Our aim is to offer fellow sports lovers the best experience for purchasing sports equipment. We primarily specialise in cricket, hockey and rugby but also stock equipment for football and racket sports in addition to fitness and nutrition products.
